Internal Medicine World Report
2007 Journal Rationale
Established: 1986
Publisher:Ascend Media Healthcare Frequency: Monthly
Web site: www.imwr.com
Editorial Mission: Internal Medicine World Report (IMWR) provides quick, cutting-edge
updates on recent developments in medicine relevant to internists. Produced as a tabloid, the publication offers extensive coverage of national and international subspecialty meetings, as well
as reviews of the most significant findings reported in major medical journals. Clinical updates
focus on practical, evidence-based clinical information with immediate implications to patient
care in primary care. Distinctive in the market, IMWR publishes Maintaining Certification in
Internal Medicine, as was introduced as a quarterly section with study materials that mimic the
self-evaluation modules and other information that assist physicians in the completion of various
elements in the recertification process. In 2007, the section will appear run-of-book in every
other month beginning in January as a result of strong reader feedback.
IMWR and Recertification for Internists: The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) first introduced requirements to sustain board certification in internal medicine
in 2000. Diplomates are expected to complete three components over a period of ten
years referred to as Continuous Professional Development (CPD). They include (1) five
self-evaluation modules, (2) a secure examination, and (3) credentialing. CPD in
particular supports building internists’ skills as effective diagnosticians, in patient
management, and as counselors to enhance patient compliance.
Publication Features: The publication aligns coverage with experience in everyday practice and with the major subspecialties in internal medicine, including cardiology, endocrinology,
gastroenterology, rheumatology, psychology, neurology, urology, pulmonary medicine,
infectious diseases, musculoskeletal medicine, oncology, women’s health, and more. Clinical
developments are reported with the added benefit of interviews with physician authors of major
research reports and presenters at educational meetings and symposia, providing commentary on
the practical applications of their findings. In addition to in-depth feature material, each issue
also includes:
- Photo Quiz
- Drug Updates
- News Briefs including FDA Rounds and International
- Health Law
- Commentaries penned by notable internists
- Special sections for hospitalists, and information written by insiders at the CMMS
Bonus Distribution Issue:
- March: American College of Physicians
Distribution: IMWR is BPA audited with a recent grid of specialty counts noted below. In 2007, we will circulate to more than 115,000 physicians with the addition of PGY3 residents and fellows in internal medicine, and the continuously building number of requesting hospitalists. The journal is mailed periodicals class, with a requester rate of 54%.
